Rook Watching and Walking

As I was walking home from a lesson yesterday I came across a group of Rooks. Not easy to tell the difference as crows are more social in winter but they had greyer beaks which is meant to be an identifying sign.
I also had time for a walk through a small field next to a stream whilst waiting for a bus. It was interesting to see the bird footprints showing up like keyholes into the snow or reversed arrowheads. Despite it being -7 degrees the willows were still fairly flexible and I managed to find the remains of a mouse nest in the long grass.
